India

A culturally, topographically, historically and ethnically rich country - full of romance, colour and mystique

Ranvas, Nagaur, Rajasthan (K)

This stunning hotel lies within the ramparts of Nagaur’s magnificent Ahhichatracharh Fort, on the edge of the Thar Desert. Over many years, this exquisitely beautiful fort has been painstakingly and brilliantly restored to its former glory, through the efforts of the Maharaja of Jodhpur.

Ranvas (formerly the ‘abode’ of the queens) comprises 10 very private havelis surrounding a large courtyard and pool area, within a palace complex inside the fort walls. Each haveli is entirely different in shape, size and design and comprises 2 suites, a spa room, inner courtyards, covered verandahs and upstairs terraces.

They have all been decorated in soft colours and entirely in keeping with their origins, use and design, whilst at the same time modern bathrooms, comforts and amenities have been installed.

There can be few places in the world where one stays in one’s own, virtually private fort, where one can take an evening stroll all around the ramparts, gazing down on busy city life outside the walls. By day, wander through a gate, and enter a world of years gone by to explore the fort, unhassled.

Playing host to the World Sufi Festival each February it transforms into a bustling tented village and comes alive with music, song and dance - truly inspirational. Ranvas is a place as fun by day as it is romantic at night and makes the perfect break en route to Bikaner or Jodhpur!
