UMAIDNAGAR GARH

Umaidnagar Garh, Nr. Jodphur

The wonderful Umaidnagar Garh (Fort) is 250 years old and stands serenely in the desert, just 40 kms north of Jodhpur and 20kms kms short of Osian. It is painted a lovely warm, deep pink and was built by Kavirajji, The Prime Minister of Marwar State, in 1760 AD. Initially situated in a village called Dhakai Village, the name was changed to Umaidnagar by the current owner when his sister married H.H Maharaja Umaid Singhji of Jodhpur. Until recently, for 70 years the building was uninhabited which has ensured that it remained in its original and remarkably good condition. Today it has been beautifully restored entirely in keeping with its traditional past. There are no garish colours and no modern, out of character furniture. The main hall is stunning with high ceilings and all the original furniture. Being so small is it the perfect place to take as a villa / in its entirety as it sleeps 8 – 12 easily. You will be immaculately looked after here by your personal chef, butler and room boy. There’s plenty to see and do in the area so it is also ideal for children. Good wine, cigars, fresh coffee, crystal, fine linen and music will ensure you have the time of your life here, all the while surrounded by an authentic 16th century atmosphere.

ACCESS: is by air to Jodhpur from Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur or Bombay, followed by a 30 minute road journey. Alternatively, travel by train to Jodhpur from Delhi, Jaipur or Jaisalmer, followed by a 30 minute road journey. Rohet is also easily accessible by road from Khimsar, Osian, Nimaj, Deogarh, Narlai, Jodhpur, Luni and Bhenswara; or by a longer road journey from Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Roopangarh and Ajmer.
