SHREYAS

Shreyas, Nr. Bangalore
A ‘spa for the soul’, Shreyas is a superbly comfortable and stylish yoga retreat.

In Sanskrit Shreyas means total excellence and this quiet sanctuary, situated in 25 green and leafy acres outside Bangalore, is dedicated to enabling material and spiritual excellence by introducing guests to yoga. Excellent rooms and cottages, decorated simply but with impeccable taste, are scattered around the grounds and it is a place as beautiful to observe by day as it is by night, when softly lit by candles. Quiet, contemplative sitting areas are to be found throughout the gardens whilst the gym, walking trails, a gorgeous swimming pool, and the opportunity to collect and learn to cook your own vegetables or help in the local school will provide a diversion for the more active.

The essence of Shreyas is the concept of wellness of the mind, body and soul whilst the aim is to show people that anyone can do yoga; that it's not scary; that you don't have to be fit or holistic or spiritual; and that you don’t have to sleep on a straw mat in a mud hut! A true retreat where you will eat like a king, sleep like a baby and be looked after by friendly and caring staff. Geared to self-discovery, the intention is to gently bring a little Indian spiritual wisdom (namely,Yoga) into the lives of its guests.

A hugely restorative, calming and uplifting place to stay.

Eco / environmental / responsible tourism policy
  • Community Service Exercises (Voluntourism): Guests can participate in interactive Community exercises during their stay. This includes picking vegetables, herbs and fruits from Shreyas' Organic Farm, assisting in preparing a meal, transporting the food, serving the food to the children or elderly in local villages, schools and orphanages.
  • Guests can dedicate a few hours of their stay sharing a vocational skill with local school children.
  • Shreyas is also actively involved in and invites interested guests to support infrastructural development of the adopted villages. These initiatives including digging up bore wells for fresh water, rain water harvesting for sustainable energy and construction of critical aspects of the village (such as toilets, school compound wall etc.)
  • The Staff at Shreyas is pre-dominantly from local villages thereby sustaining the local environment.
  • Spa - The scrubs and masks used in our Spa are freshly prepared from organic ingredients picked from our farm and are chemical and preservative-free.
  • Food at Shreyas comes mostly from our organic garden. This includes vegetables, fruits and herbs as well as rice.
  • The requirement of milk is met through the cattle reared at Shreyas. The cattle are fed organic fodder grown especially at our farm, ensuring the milk is organic as well.
  • The cow dung from the cattle is recycled as natural manure in the agricultural garden, instead of commercial products.
  • The bio-waste generated in the kitchens is utilized as an input at the in-house organic manure generation pit.
  • Sprinklers are used to water the lawn for more effective use of water. The contours of the land are not disturbed for artificial landscaping, thus enabling the rain water to get collected in ponds created for this purpose.
  • Shreyas does not use any form of chemical-based fertilizers, insecticides or pesticides.
  • To ward off mosquitoes, an effective 100% herbal cream is used.
  • Citronella is widely grown at Shreyas and serves as a natural deterrent for mosquitoes.
  • All toiletries used in the bathrooms and our Spa are provided in dispensers to avoid the use of plastic.
  • Drinking water in all rooms is provided in insulated flasks to avoid the use of plastic bottles.
  • The drinking water is purified through our in-house filtration plant by water softening and reverse-osmosis processes. The waste water from the reverse osmosis process is utilized for watering the lawns.
  • The villas at Shreyas are well ventilated and allow natural light to flow, thereby reducing electricity requirements.
  • Solar energy panels are used as a source of power where possible.
