SHER BAGH

Sher Bagh, Ranthambore
The inspired owner of Sher Bagh has created the perfect jungle
camp, just a few minutes from the gates of Ranthambore National Park.
Wonderfully comfortable tents are arranged in a semi-circle around a garden
and tented pavilion. Each has its own verandah with comfy chairs and the
interiors are stunningly decorated with traditional 'campaign' furniture
and excellent linen. The bathrooms are even better, comprising a mixture
of green marble and copper and with large, sunken showers. That said,
the tents are entirely in keeping with their jungle surroundings and manage
to retain a stylish simplicity and the authenticity of original 'shikar'
tents. The spacious, airy main lodge has a sitting area and an excellent
bar / café on an upper level which affords fabulous views of the
surrounding hills and countryside, itself dotted with ancient watch towers.
When not out game viewing, explore Ranthambore Fort, relax by a camp fire,
drink fine wine, feast on delicious food, go on camel rides or bird walks,
chat to the hugely informative naturalists or find a secluded, shady area
and lie back on a day bed, looking across the fields and woodland. The
perfect place for dedicated nature and wildlife lovers who are looking
for a genuine jungle camp experience.

THE NATIONAL PARK: Established as a sanctuary in 1955, this was one of the original areas covered by Project Tiger. Situated in south-eastern Rajasthan, it lies on a plateau at the junction of the Aravalli and Vindhya Hills. Covering 389sq kms, much of the area comprises arid scrub jungle, together with forested hills and artificial lakes. There is an impressive range of bird life and animal species include sambar, chital, nilgai, chinkara, wild boar, sloth bear, jackal and leopard. There is also a mighty 1000 year old fort which broods over the park.

ACCESS: is by road from Jaipur, Samode, Kota, Bundi or by a longer road journey from Agra and Bharatpur.
