This fascinating little ‘design’ hotel is a fabulous addition to the Cochin boutique hotel scene and has a superb location overlooking the maidan / parade ground. Situated in the heart of Fort Cochin (the only place to stay in Cochin!), itself replete with colonial architecture and a joy to explore, Trinity is a delightful 8 bedroom hotel. Having had a complete facelift, it has been converted from a former 3 bedroom contemporary villa into an excellent 8 bedroom hotel, exhibiting almost a Bauhaus style in its architecture and simplicity.
With entirely modern interior design, it showcases stunning antique furniture and objets d’art. The hotel comprises part new build and part old building, whilst the interiors shout new, challenging and contemporary – clean lines, bright blocks of colour, open spaces and almost minimalist décor, are combined with traditional wooden furniture and local Malayali design concepts.
There is a large sitting room and a ‘hanging’ mezzanine floor full of deep cushions and daybeds. The light-filled, modern bedrooms are on 2 floors in two buildings linked by cantilevered walkways. Many have balconies and look over a pretty courtyard and small garden. Some rooms are large, open plan with open air bathrooms and full of fun colour blocks; others are more compact, with more muted colours but no less spacious, airy and comfortable.
Renowned for its fabulous food, dining here is a treat - either in the buzzy Passage Malabar Restaurant or in the garden. There is also the added bonus of a tempting in-house bakery which provides mouth-wateringly good delicacies morning, noon and night.
Alternatively venture down the road to the Malabar Junction Restaurant and wine bar Divine at the renowned Malabar House – where guests may also make use of the pool (before one is built at Trinity). Cochin is a must and the perfect entry or exit point for Kerala. Being serviced by both international and internal flights, it is easily accessible and is an easy drive from the backwaters, hills and spice estates.
A buzzy, fascinating port town, aka ‘the Venice of the East’ which should be visited by all and Trinity is a ‘hot’ new/re-vamped place to stay. The perfect chic retreat in a quiet corner of Cochin, exuding style, intimacy and sophistication.
This small, intimate little hotel in the heart of Fort Cochin is a lovely party venue and begs to be taken over by a group of friends wanting to party together. The garden and dining area provide a charming venue for a small celebration in one of the loveliest parts of the city. Varied local entertainment possible.
