ANANDA IN THE HIMALAYAS
Ananda in the Himalayas, nr. Rishikesh, Uttaranchal
India's only true destination spa, Ananda is a glorious
hotel, clinging to a ridge in the Himalayan foothills. Undoubtedly one
of the best hotels in India and best spas in the world, it consistently
wins awards of acclaim. The 78 room resort boasts unbeatable spa facilities,
wonderful walking, peaceful solitude and a chance to get back to nature,
whilst surrounded by luxury. There is a great deal to do if not enjoying
the spa and, unlike some spas, it is not run like a 'boot camp' –
if you wish to eat chocolate and drink alcohol, you may! The restaurant
offers superb cuisine and dedicated spa menus which can be personalised
according to the spa doctor's recommendations. The large, heated swimming
pool is the perfect place to relax, in a climate that is ideal almost
all year round. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated in soft colours
and each has a balcony overlooking either the valley or the hotel grounds.
The bathrooms are state of the art and one is unlikely to find a better
valley view from a bathtub anywhere else in the world! The 3 new villas
scattered around the expansive grounds vie for position as being the most
luxurious 'villa suites' in India. Each has its own private, heated pool
with a built in Jacuzzi.
The exceptional spa is a haven of tranquility, with excellent
treatment rooms and a team of highly qualified, friendly staff. The open
air treatment room allows you to lie and be massaged whilst gazing across
the hills and valley. Being a fully dedicated 'Spa', Ananda excels in
the science of Ayurveda but also offers a remarkably wide range of treatments
and massage techniques from around the world. There is also daily, expert
instruction in 'spiritual fitness' - yoga, breathing, meditation and the
ancient art of Reiki – all of which are very much associated with
this particularly spiritual region. The yoga pavilion is a magical place
to spend time in quiet contemplation, guided by some of the country's
finest teachers.
ACCESS: is by 4 ½ hour train from Delhi to Haridwar, followed by a 1 hour road journey, or by 6 ½ hour road journey from Delhi, or by chartered helicopter from Delhi. It is also easily accessed by road from Rishikesh, Corbett, Dehra Dun and Mussoorie.
