Nepal

One of the most compellingly beautiful and diverse mountain countries in the world

Shinta Mani Mustang –
A Bensley Collection, Mustang

Shinta Mani Mustang – A Bensley Collection is a glorious new hotel located in the heart of the breathtakingly beautiful, almost mythical region of Mustang in the far north of Nepal. Translated from Tibetan, ‘Mustang’ means ‘plain of aspiration’ and that is exactly what you feel up here in a land rising to over 8000m. Previously forbidden to outsiders it remains hugely isolated and is a high altitude desert – barren, dry, intensely dramatic and starkly beautiful. Enclosed by some of the highest peaks in the world, it borders Tibet and has many similarities in terms of geography, flora customs, language and culture.

The hotel sits high above Jomsom, overlooking the deep Kali Gandaki Valley and sandwiched between the mighty Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountain ranges. The views are truly spectacular and the inspired design ensures the rooms look straight across to the distinctive Nilgiri Peak. With its fusion of traditional and contemporary design elements, and its exceptional levels of service and attention to detail, Shinta Mani provides a wonderfully comfortable and sophisticated base for exploring this remote kingdom – ancient Buddhist monasteries; shadowy and wide open valleys where rivers bound noisily down; tiny, remote villages scattered around, sheltering from steeply rising cliffs and surrounded by fruit trees; hikes in rugged, awe-inspiring terrain – it’s all here.

Built entirely of local stone it blends seamlessly into its craggy backdrop and is the epitome of timeless, understated elegance and comfort. The 29 suites are huge, sophisticated and a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. The interiors are replete with floor to ceiling windows offering views to die for, a large sitting area and state of the art bathrooms. With wood predominant, they are furnished with rich textures of warm, inviting colours based local design traditions, along with a wonderful range of carefully curated artworks and yak skins which you’ll find throughout the hotel.

Outside, a glorious, sheltered terrace provides a wonderful place to dine al fresco or simply read in the sun in a comfy chair. Inside there’s a lovely restaurant where one can feast on scrumptious Nepali and Western cuisine; along with a cosy bar where one could while away the hours chatting or sheltering from a storm outside. On return from a vigorous hike into the surrounding mountains and valleys, or after a day’s exploration of the fascinating villages in the region, return to the beautiful, full-fledged spa. In addition to the therapeutic wellness and beauty treatments we provide, you will have the opportunity to meet with our amchi – Tsewang Gyurme Gurung or his practitioner, for a consultation and undergo a thorough assessment of their overall well-being, encompassing physical, mental, and emotional health, rooted in centuries-old traditional healing wisdom. Personalized recommendations for meticulously designed well-being treatments are provided, seamlessly integrating into your spa experience for holistic healing. Whether a herbal bouquet for your steam, a poultice for aching muscles or the recommendation of specific oils for your massage, Amchi will draw from his wealth of ancestral knowledge to provide this unique and valuable element of your wellbeing prescription.
